Stephen J. Byrnes is an associate with Foley and a member of the Transactional & Securities Practice and the Emerging Technologies Industry Team. Mr. Byrnes received his law degree (J.D., with distinction, 2006) from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he was a student writer (2004-05) and a symposium editor (2005-06) for the Journal of Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in political Science (B.A., magna cum laude) and a Bachelor of Arts in history (B.A., cum laude). During his undergrad, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta and Pi Sigma Alpha. During law school, Mr. Byrnes was a summer associate for Foley and a consumer advocacy intern for the California Public Interest Research Group (CalPIRG), where he assisted in drafting consumer reports for the organization's Los Angeles-area Consumer Advocate, conducted surveys of industry practices, researched pending legislation and conducted meetings with legislators and local government officials.
